Reading Room Notes - 12 August 2011

The Reading Room is now well insulated and a wide range of necessary repairs have been completed. By the end of August, we hope that the new heating system will have been installed and that the main hall will have been redecorated. This work will cost almost all of the money raised so far (£18,000); the committee hope that if we are able to raise a further £12,000, this will cover the cost of redecorating the rest of the Reading Room and the installation of new windows. However, we know that once a project starts on a building of this age, there are always additional unforeseen problems and extra expense. Watch this space!

Despite the terrible weather during the Goose Fair this year, the event made a profit of £2582. Sadly, more than this amount was spent on new (more secure) fire doors after the old ones were smashed in yet another break in.

The committee members are grateful to Hazel Chalmers who is continuing to lead the Restoration Fund Raising sub-committee despite the fact that she has resigned from the main committee. Hazel has been very successful and her contribution is appreciated.
